Newly opened in Old Montreal (436 Place Jacques-Cartier), Jacopo offers a farm to table experience, using only fresh and seasonal ingredients to create their Italian menu. They offer lunch everyday from 12pm to 4pm and dinner from 4pm to 11pm (and midnight on Saturday and Sunday).
The interior of the restaurant is amazing! It is built on two floors, the first one includes an outside terrace (in front of the restaurant) and on the second floor is where you can find the beautiful veranda, perfect for Montreal's unpredictable weather.
We had the chance to try out different menu items at Jacopo at their media opening and all I can say, it's that we were not disappointed! The menu was created by the executive chef Giovanni Vella and the Chef at Jacopo, Matthew Bell. Of course, the location of the restaurant comes with a price, so it is a rather expensive meal, but you are in the heart of the Old Port.
As an Antipasti we tried:
My favorite was the Supplì. When I go to Italy, it's one of my favorite antipasti to share and it really did remind me of my trips to Italy.
As a Primi, we had to choose between many of their fresh pasta options. Of course, I chose the Gnocchi al Pomodoro e Burrata (18$), with the option to add extra burrata for another (18$). As a hardcore gnocchi fan, I am happy to announce that I was not disappointed by these. The texture, the sauce, the cheese everything was so fresh and light! The portion in my opinion is on the filling side, so it would be a great dish to share with someone if you wish to enjoy a variety of dishes during the meal. Another dish I would like to mention is the Ravioli di Zucca (squash filled ravioli with sage and hazelnut sage butter and roasted almonds) (21$). I did not have the chance to try it out ( will be going back for this!) but everyone said it was to die for!
Jacopo also offers a variety of Secondi (meats) such as the Agnello Arrosto (roasted lamb), Porchetta (slow cooked pork), Polpo (grilled squid) and many more. All of these are offered in generous portions perfect for sharing. Additionally, they offer a variety of homemade charcuterie and vegetables to share, as an appetizer or a side dish.
Finally, they have many cocktails and wines that are privately imported.
One thing is for sure, I will be back for more!
Bon Appétit!!!
