From brunch to dinner: SUWU

Located on Boulevard Saint-Laurent in Montreal, Suwu is the perfect neighborhood bar that also sells amazing food. I had the chance to try out both the Brunch and Dinner/late night menu and fell in love with the place! It's open everyday from 5pm to 3am and on weekends for brunch from 11am to 3pm. The place has a very rustic vibe to with all the wood and plants which just adds to the experience.

Let's start off with Brunch: As I mentioned it is offered every weekend from 11am to 3pm. I would recommend getting a reservation (by calling at 514-564-5074) as it gets pretty packed. The menu offers a variety of sweet and savory dishes as well as some of their signature cocktails to spice up your brunch

As we have big sweet teeth we decided to share the New Orleans Beignets with the sides of compotes and mascarpone as a starter and they sure did not disappoint! This has to be the closest thing I have ever had to the original beignets in New Orleans! The were so light and fluffy yet doughy! Definitely a must try at this restaurant and the perfect way to start of your brunch with a nice coffee.

Afterwards we shared 3 different plates from their main menu, so we could share with you different options they have.

For people with a savory tooth, we tried out the Egg McMuffin which is an english muffin with sausage, egg, honey mustard hollandaise and Suwu style potatoes (also offered as a side on the menu). (10$) I'm usually not the biggest fan of this at McDonalds and Tim Hortons but this was to die for. I would describe it as the perfect hangover cure.

On a healthier note, we tried out the West Coast Bowl, which is a smoothie bowl that changes every week. When we went, it was a Mango and Pineapple smoothie bowl. (13$) I feel like often times, smoothie bowls are not the best thing to order in restaurants because they put a lot of ice in them and they feel frozen. But this one, was just the perfect texture and temperature.

Finally, we tried out the Decadent which is a Lemon and Poppy seeds loaf cooked french toast style with a strawberry compote, some nut-infused mascarpone and house made ice creams topped off with walnut dust. (12$) Now I definitely know why it is called the decadent because this is so sweet and filling, almost like a dessert. If I would of ordered this as my own meal I would of never been able to finish it! So, I would recommend sharing it with a saltier dish or simply taking it as a dessert at the end of your meal. But it is definitely worth trying out!!

We also tried out a couple of cocktails, more specifically the Suwu Smoothie (raspberries, mangos, bananas, coconut milk and pineapple juice (without rum)) and their Thug Mansion (gin procesco, raspberry syrup, cucumbers, lemon and Peychaud's). Seeing only the description of this cocktail, I would of never of taken it since I like more fruity and sweet drink but it was one of the best drinks I have ever had! It was just the perfect way to end our meal.

Now for dinner! The menu offers a variety of food items including some that represent the perfect late night cravings we all have on a night out!

We started of with a dinner service that consisted of:

  • Arancinis (sweet peas, marinated artichokes, pesto aioli and olive tapenade). (6 for 9$)
